Last count, there were about 1000 Realtors in Santa Fe. The joke was, “if you can’t find a job in Santa Fe, become a Realtor”. There certainly have been thousands who became a Realtor since I was licensed in 1991. I’m only aware of a handful of Realtors who have 15 years or more who are still in the business and some of them are part-time at best. Anyway, I’m sure there will be thousands more before I hang up my hat. Truth is if you’re looking for one, stop by Starbucks or Whole Foods, and it won’t be to long before a total stranger comes up to and introduces themselves as a Realtor. If you ask them how long they lived here, and where they’re from, you might find out they recently moved here from another state.
Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico is my home. I grew up here. I remember when the downtown area was the only shopping and stores that surrounded the plaza included JC Penneys, Sears, Woolworths and local owned businesses. My folks have told me stories when “El Diferente” roamed the streets of Santa Fe painting hollyhocks and selling them to the tourist. When I was the Parks and Recreation Director, we dedicated the first “art in park” in his name. I’d love to tell you about it. My mother-in-law still remembers when the wood cutters would sell their pine, pinon and cedar wood at “burro alley” and the Santa Fe River would run year round.
So if your looking for a Realtor who understands the difference between a calle or a camino, a latilla and a viga, adobe, stucco or sto finish, then you might want to contact me. I would find it a honor to assist you in finding the right home in Santa Fe or Northern New Mexico.
